5 Easy Ways to Revive Your Kitchen

Does your kitchen make you sigh, rather than get excited about busting out the pots and pans and making a magnificent meal?

Sure, you’d love to renovate the space. But that’s too big a job – and money is tight. Don’t despair! Here are 5 easy and inexpensive ways to revive your kitchen in no time, for little cash.

1. Swap dark for light

Light, bright kitchens are all the rage these days. When you use a neutral base, it’s a cinch to work in a little colour – as well as create a space that future buyers can slip right into.

On a tight budget, you can replace dark wood cabinet doors and drawers with light laminate. Or add a glossy white dining table and chairs. If you have a little more dosh to play with, consider painting the walls and ceiling in a white or off-white earthy tone.

2. Set the theme

If you don’t like the design of your current kitchen, it could just be that the colour scheme no longer inspires. If that’s the case, you don’t need to rip everything out and endure a lengthy renovation. Instead, just experiment with a new theme! In this kitchen, a palette combining grey, red and white really sets the space and makes a smart statement. See how the red is carried through the kitchen with scales, salt and pepper grinders, and a fruit bowl. It’s the little touches that can really pack a punch

3. Make a splash

A splashback is one of the simplest steps to overhauling an old kitchen. Even if you make no other changes, a colourful sheet of glass, tiles, stainless steel or vinyl will transport your kitchen into a new age – and add some much-needed sparkle. The tangerine splashback in this galley kitchen contrasts beautifully with the white benchtops and cabinets.

4. From clutter to clear

Turn that junk drawer into an organised, tidy nook. For a small outlay, you can add drawer inserts, organisers, spice holders, cutlery trays – you name it – and get your kitchen in order. Meal prep and cooking becomes far more enjoyable when everything is in its place.

5. Bring the outdoors in

Typically, the kitchen is an industrial-style space with stainless steel appliances and glossy bench tops. But with a touch of greenery, you can soften the space and improve the indoor air quality. Treat yourself each week to fresh flowers, find a spot for indoor plants, or grow your own herbs on the windowsill.

Hi Aaron, you renovated our kitchen nearly 9 years ago. We now would like to change the bench tops to something lighter and more modern. Do you still have our kitchen dimensions on computer? . Can you suggest the latest trends for new bench tops please ?
